From primitive rubber strips to intelligent automatic sealing systems.
Market Development History
In the early 2000s, the Malaysian market relied heavily on basic PVC and low-grade neoprene strips. These provided minimal insulation and suffered from rapid hardening under the tropical sun, offering poor longevity for outdoor door sweep applications.
Between 2010 and 2020, there was a transition toward EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubber. This period saw the introduction of more complex geometries and the adoption of integrated aluminum carriers, which significantly improved the structural integrity of sealing strips used in luxury condominiums and shopping malls.
Current trends since 2021 focus on "Smart Sealing." The integration of mechanical triggers and high-recovery polymers has led to the rise of the automatic door sealing strip, which only engages when the door is closed, reducing friction and extending the lifespan of the rubber.
Future Development Trends
Nano-Composite Rubber Materials
Integration of nano-silica and graphene to create rubber that is virtually impervious to UV radiation and ozone, specifically for Malaysia's intense sun exposure.
Eco-Friendly Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE)
A shift toward recyclable TPE materials that match the performance of EPDM while meeting new green building certifications in Asia.
IoT-Integrated Seal Monitoring
Development of seals with embedded wear-sensors that notify facility managers when a seal's compression set has reached a critical limit, ensuring constant energy efficiency.
