  • Selecting the right cylinder gasket is as important as its function. A faulty or worn-out gasket can lead to engine inefficiencies, such as reduced power, increased fuel consumption, and potentially severe damage due to coolant or oil leaks. Regular inspection and timely replacement of the gasket are essential maintenance practices to ensure the longevity and efficient operation of an engine.
  • This is one of the frequent reasons for oil seal failure, and this is majorly because of the volatility of any of the elastomer’s constituents. These causative constituents may be part of the elastomer formulation, or gases that got entrapped in the elastomer during the molding process. The deceiving fact about this failure is that sometimes the oil seal won’t show any visual sign of out-gassing, however, sometimes when the out-gassing is extreme, they shrink.

  • The primary function of a rubber valve cover gasket is to prevent oil from seeping out of the engine. Engine oil, vital for lubrication and cooling, would otherwise escape through any gaps, leading to oil loss, potential engine damage, and reduced efficiency. Moreover, the gasket also keeps contaminants like dust and water from entering the engine, safeguarding its internal components.

  • Silicone Rubber (SI): A popular choice for its resistance to low and high temperatures (-58 to 356°F, or -50 to 180°C). Silicone rubber has high lubricant absorbency, which reduces friction and wear, making it ideal for crankshaft seals. However, it is unsuitable for oxidized or hypnoid oils due to its poor resistance to hydrolysis.
